(Galloway, N.J.) Seashore Gardens Living Center (SGLC) is celebrating is 100th Anniversary with a gala that celebrates “a century of caring, a compassionate future,” on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 6 p.m. The Seashore Gardens Foundation Centennial Gala takes place at SGLC, 22 West Jimmie Leeds Road, Galloway, N.J. and will feature a tribute to its 100-year history as well as honor the community and staff for their leadership and service. Proceeds from the gala will benefit the many programs and services provided by SGLC.
The nonprofit SGLC was founded in 1916 by a group of local Jewish businessmen. The first home provided kosher meals and temporary housing for the poor in a small house on Columbia Place in Atlantic City’s inlet section. But the founders quickly realized another need in the community. Long before Social Security and Medicare, these enterprising citizens put together a plan to care for the elderly. When the Hebrew Sheltering Home moved to its new location on South Georgia Avenue in 1923, it transformed its charter to include the aged and changed its name to the Hebrew Old Age Home of Atlantic City.
Today, it is known as Seashore Gardens Living Center and located in Galloway Township. The 20-acre complex includes a skilled nursing facility, an Alzheimer’s neighborhood and Assisted Living apartments. In 2012, Seashore Housing opened on the property for those aged 55+ and for those with mental and special needs.
The Centennial Gala will feature a display of stories and photos from SGLC’s
century of enriching elder lives. There will also be award presentations to commemorate those who have supported SGLC over the years. Martin H. Klein, Chief Executive Officer of SGLC, will accept the 2016 Martin H. Klein Leadership Award on behalf of a century of leaders. SGLC Board Members Shirley and Howard Bernstein will accept the 2016 Seashore Gardens Bernstein Labov Community Service Award on behalf of the community members who offered their support over the past century. SGLC Executive Director Janice Cambron will accept an award on behalf of the dedicated staff, and the residents and families who have been part of the SGLC family over the past 100 years.
Dean L. Scarpa, a board member of SLGC, will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the Centennial program and awards presentation. Co-chairpersons for the event are Drs. David and Norma Blecker, Jerry and Shelley Bernstein and David and Caren Karp.
In addition, guests will enjoy an extensive selection of hors d’oeuvres, gourmet tasting stations and dessert tables, and signature cocktails. One of the tasting stations will feature vegetables grown by residents in the SGLC garden. New this year will be a whiskey tasting station. There also will be a silent auction, with the opportunity to win sports memorabilia, trips, and other prizes.
Tickets for the Seashore Gardens Foundation Gala are $225 for guests aged 40–80 and $175 for those under the age of 40, or over the age of 80. Tickets, sponsorships and ads may be purchased by contacting Sharon D’Angio at (609) 748-4614, or email@example.com.

Formed in Chicago in 1996, the multi-platinum Disturbed – David Draiman [vocals], Dan Donegan [guitar], Mike Wengren [drums], and John Moyer [bass] – have sold over 15 million albums globally and scored eleven No. 1 singles at Active Rock Radio. Their quadruple-platinum 2000 debut The Sickness formally announced their arrival as hard rock leaders, with that status solidified by their subsequent Grammy Award nomination as well as gold-, platinum- and double platinum-certified records. Immortalized marked the end of the group’s 4-year hiatus and became their fifth consecutive album to debut at #1 on the Billboard Top 200, a rare feat achieve by only one other hard rock band in the history of the chart: Metallica. Disturbed’s current single, their haunting take on the Simon & Garfunkel classic “The Sound of Silence” is #1 rock song on iTunes and has been in the Top 10 iTunes video chart for over a month, alongside the likes of Adele and Taylor Swift. The stunning black-and-white video has now surpassed 12 million views on YouTube, and the song is rapidly making its way to the top of the Rock Radio chart, following in the footsteps of recent No. 1 singles “The Vengeful One” and “The Light.”
Hailing from San Antonio, Nothing More is a four-headed musical hydra that runs on frenetic passion, unswerving DIY spirit and relentless sonic experimentation. Part schizoid System Of A Down weird-isms, part Mars Volta-esque prog rock freak out, part effortless pop nous, they seamlessly barrel from churning headbang to skyscraping chorus and back again in the blink of an eye. Capable of bombastic bounce that hits as hard as an uppercut to the jaw, the band is equally able to dial down their bluster into deft moments of crystalline beauty. It’s a gut-punching blend made all the more powerful by a keen lyrical sophistication and philosophical undertone which both belies their years and marks them out from their contemporaries.
